Support your Community
Membership in the North Centerville Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 is the greatest way to not only support your community, but everyone near and far. We are open to men and women of at least 18 years of age. Residents of Hazlet Township and surrounding towns are permitted. Residents of surrounding towns are encouraged to participate for their respective municipality.
We have many options for those who wish to join. Those under the age of 18 may take part in the "Fire Explorer" program and we have the "Ladies Auxiliary," who help in too many ways to list here. Please take a minute to read further and see how you can help those in "our" community.
TRAINING
All members receive a rigorous 11-week training program through the Monmouth County Fire Academy in Howell, NJ. This training is provided at no expense to the trainee. The training consists of several weeknights of classroom sessions and one weekend day for each of the eleven weeks. Prior to attendance, the trainee will receive advance training from NCVFC to prepare for the work at the Academy.
In addition, mandatory blood borne pathogen training and an SCBA mask fit test will be given to all new members prior to participation in firematic duties.
PHYSICAL
All new members must receive a physical prior to being accepted by the Hazlet Township Board of Fire Commissioners as fit to participate in firematic duties. This physical will be provided free of charge from the Board of Fire Commissioners doctor or will be reimbursed to the applicant upon acceptance from their personal physician. Acceptance as physically fit only applies to firematic duties and does not preclude an individual from joining the fire company in another capacity.
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
All new members will serve a one-year probationary period upon acceptance into the Company. An induction meeting will take place with the NCVFC Executive Board upon receipt of an application. At this meeting all rules and regulations regarding new members will be discussed. These include, but are not limited to, the following:
The Chief governs probationary members during the one-year probationary period
Members must maintain the requirements of 60% of all available calls, 50% of all drills, and 50% of all general work details
Members must attend fire company meetings in accordance with the By-Laws of the Company
The remaining rules and regulations will be explained at the induction meeting. Membership is revocable by either party as outlined in the Company By-Laws.
